The 1878 8TF Viewfinder is the size of a business card, yet holds 33 pages of key 1878 8TF images that allow you to identify what variety collectors believe are the caviar of Morgan silver dollars, the 8 Tailfeathers (8TF). The images are on a microfilm and can be viewed using your loupe or magnifier. These were the first Morgan silver dollars off the presses in March, 1878. They were the intended design of Mint Engraver George T. Morgan. 8TFs are a higher relief than all other Morgan dollars minted thereafter, and when seen with frosted proof-like cameo devises, are among the most beautiful of all silver dollars ever minted. More importantly, there are 41 different varieties of 1878 8 TFs known. Nearly half of the varieties are premium coins, with some varieties commanding very heavy premiums (i.e., more than $5000 in Extremely Fine condition). It really pays to get this handy little pocket guide (value guide included). It will help you attribute the rare ones as you look through 8TF’s at coin shops or at coin shows.
